GTA 6’s First Trailer Hits the Two-Year Mark as Fans Endure More Delays

It has now been two full years since Rockstar announced the debut of the first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer. What was once an explosion of excitement has gradually become a reminder of how long the wait for the game has been, especially after multiple delays and ongoing controversies surrounding the project.

The December 2023 trailer shattered YouTube records, becoming the most-viewed non-music video in 24 hours and the most-liked game trailer ever released. Fans analyzed every frame, hoping to uncover hints about the story, characters, or future reveals. But as time has passed without the game in players’ hands, that wave of hype has turned into lingering frustration.

Two Years Since the First Trailer’s Announcement

Rockstar confirmed the trailer’s release on December 1, 2023, making this the two-year anniversary of that announcement. The trailer itself dropped a few days later on December 4. At the time, it promised a 2025 release window, but since then the game has been delayed twice. It is now slated for November 19, 2026.

Despite the long wait, solid details about the game remain limited. The second trailer and updates on Rockstar’s website introduced a handful of characters and confirmed that the story will follow Jason and Lucia as they get involved in a large-scale criminal conspiracy. Beyond that, Rockstar has stayed quiet.

Delays, Controversy, and Optimism

Rockstar first postponed GTA 6 to May 2026 before announcing another delay to November 2026. Layoffs and rumors of a higher-than-usual price tag added more uncertainty. Even so, several insiders have spoken positively about the project, with some claiming the game justifies a premium price and others suggesting development is nearing completion. While this could reduce the risk of further delays, nothing is guaranteed.

What Comes Next for GTA 6?

If the current schedule holds, the game is less than a year away. That leaves enough time for Rockstar to release more footage or details, though it’s unclear when that might happen. Hopes for a new trailer at The Game Awards are low, but Rockstar has a history of surprising fans with sudden reveals outside major events. GTA 5 received nine trailers before launch, so GTA 6 is likely to get additional previews.

For now, fans have only two official trailers released over the last two years as they continue waiting for one of the most anticipated games of the decade.
