Resident Evil Requiem Reintroduces Ink Ribbons—But Only for Players Seeking a Classic Challenge.

Hey, Daily Quest readers! Capcom just wrapped its January 15, 2026, Resident Evil Showcase, and it was 12 minutes of pure survival-horror adrenaline. While we already knew Leon S. Kennedy and newcomer Grace Ashcroft were sharing the spotlight, Capcom went deep on how their gameplay styles—and their difficulty settings—will drastically change your experience when the game launches on February 27.

The Return of the Ink Ribbon

For the "PS1 sickos" (Capcom's words, not mine!), the classic save system is back. But here’s the catch: it’s entirely optional.

  • Standard (Classic) Difficulty: If you select this mode, autosaves are disabled during Grace's segments. You will have to scrounge for limited Ink Ribbons and find a typewriter to record your progress.

  • Modern Comforts: If you prefer the current style, Standard (Modern) and Casual modes will keep the autosaves and manual save points you're used to from RE Village and the remakes.

  • Leon’s Exception: Interestingly, Leon’s action-packed segments will not use Ink Ribbons even on Classic difficulty. Capcom explained this is because Leon’s gameplay is "fast-paced action," while Grace represents the "traditional survival horror" roots.

Zombies with a "Daily Routine"

The showcase featured a terrifying new look at the infected. These aren't just mindless shamblers; they retain "muscle memory" from their former lives.

  • The Janitor: A zombie seen mindlessly mopping a blood-stained floor.

  • The Chef: An undead cook still "preparing" meat in a kitchen.

  • The Strategy: You can actually watch these routines to find openings. If the Janitor zombie is busy mopping a specific corner, you can sneak behind him without firing a single shot.

Grace vs. Leon: Two Different Games

Capcom is leaning into the "Dual Protagonist" vibe harder than ever, giving each character unique tools:

FeatureGrace AshcroftLeon S. Kennedy
PlaystyleSurvival Horror: Hide, craft, and flee.Action Horror: Shoot, parry, and melee.
Unique Weapon"Requiem" Revolver: Massive stopping power, zero ammo.Combat Hatchet: Can be used to finish downed foes.
Special MechanicBlood Crafting: Collect zombie blood to make "Explosive Syringes."Fear Meter: Audio distorts and aim shakes as Leon gets stressed.

The "Elpis" Mystery

The showcase ended on a cryptic note regarding "Elpis"—a keyword connecting Leon, Grace, and the death of Grace's mother, Alyssa Ashcroft.

  • The Lore: In Greek mythology, Elpis was the personification of Hope (the last thing in Pandora's Box).

  • The Connection: Leaks suggest "Operation Elpis" is a U.S. government investigation into secret groups linked to Umbrella's past. Whether Elpis is a new virus, a person, or a new "Tyrant" model remains the game's biggest secret.

Collector’s Corner: Real-World Merch

Capcom isn't just selling a game; they’re selling a lifestyle:

  • Hamilton Watches: 2,000 limited-edition real-life versions of Grace and Leon’s in-game watches will be sold for $2,000 each.

  • Porsche Collab: Leon’s in-game car is a Porsche, part of a high-end brand partnership.

  • Switch 2 Gear: A special Resident Evil Requiem Switch 2 Pro Controller was officially revealed for the console's launch window.

Final Drop: Resident Evil Requiem launches February 27, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

What’s your take, Quest squad? Are you brave enough to play on Standard (Classic) with the Ink Ribbons, or are you sticking to the Modern settings for your first run? Let us know in the comments!
