Hey, Vault Hunters! Gearbox just dropped the January 15, 2026 update for Borderlands 4, and it’s a direct response to the community’s "loot depression" after the holiday event ended. If you felt like the legendary fountains had dried up, there's finally some good news—with a side of massive buffs for two of our favorite Vault Hunters.
Here’s everything you need to know about the latest patch.
1. The "Legendary" Compromise
After the Seasons Lootings event ended on January 8, players were vocal about how "dry" the base game felt. Gearbox has now implemented a permanent increase to legendary drop rates.
The Reality Check: While Gearbox didn't release the official numbers, community dataminers have found that the base drop rates for common legendaries have roughly doubled (moving from about 3% up to 6%).
The Catch: Tier 3 "Ultra Rares" (like The Bod) haven't seen much of a bump, remaining at their elusive 3% rate. It’s better than it was, but it's not quite the 5x "loot-splosion" we had during the holidays.
2. Vault Hunter Reforging: Harlowe and Amon
While Vex and Rafa continue to dominate the meta (especially Vex’s infinitely stacking bleed builds), Harlowe and Amon were falling behind in Ultimate Vault Hunter (UVH) levels. This patch aims to fix that.
Amon the Forgeknight (The Big Winner)
Amon received a "heavy hitter" overhaul. If you felt his Action Skills were lacking "oomph," this update is for you:
Detonation Buff: Forgeaxe and Forgehammer detonation damage boosted by 72%.
Hour of the Hammer: Impact damage increased by 59%.
Blade Tempest: Now fires 5 swords per barrage (up from 3) and fixed a major cooldown bug.
Survivability: Armor of Contempt now grants a 5% Overshield whenever you deal Action Skill damage.
Harlowe the Gravitar
Harlowe’s control-oriented gameplay got a nice efficiency boost:
Freeze Frame: Bonus Cryo damage is now 20% with a maximum of 5 stacks.
Concurrence: Action Skill duration increased by 5%.
Cooldown Refund: Killing an "Entangled" enemy now restores 6% of her Action Skill cooldown and duration via the Control Group skill.
3. New Gear: The "Bloody Lumberjack"
A new weapon has been added to the Foundry Freaks loot pool:
The Phosphene Variant: This is a special version of the Daedalus Legendary Assault Rifle known as the Bloody Lumberjack. It deals massive elemental splash damage and is a must-farm for splash-oriented builds.

Final Drop: What's Next for 2026?
This update is just a warm-up. Gearbox has already teased a Major Update coming later this month that will detail the Q1 2026 roadmap, including the first Bounty Pack and the long-awaited return of Pearlescent rarity gear.
What’s your take, Quest squad? Is a 6% drop rate enough to keep you farming, or do you think Gearbox needs to crank it back up to holiday levels? Let us know in the comments!
