The rumors are officially history. Square Enix and Deck Nine Games have pulled back the curtain on Life is Strange: Reunion, confirming the return of the franchise's most iconic duo, Max Caulfield and Chloe Price.
Picking up directly after the events of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, this new chapter aims to give fans the "thrilling finale" to the Max and Chloe saga that many felt was missing from recent entries.
A Multiverse of Memories: The Story
In Life is Strange: Reunion, Max is facing yet another academic nightmare: a massive, mysterious fire is threatening to level Caledon University in just three days. Amidst this chaos, Chloe Price arrives at the campus seeking Max’s help.
But this isn't just a simple catch-up. Chloe is haunted by "impossible memories" and nightmares of a past she never actually lived. It turns out that when Max merged parallel timelines during the climax of Double Exposure, she inadvertently brought back a version of Chloe who is now caught between two realities.
Gameplay: Two Leads, Two Power Sets
For the first time in the main series, both Max and Chloe are fully playable co-protagonists, each bringing their signature skills to the table:
Max (The Rewind): Max’s time-twisting powers have evolved. In addition to her standard rewind, she can now leap into Polaroid photos and remain in the past, allowing her to solve "four-dimensional puzzles" and manipulate the environment in brand-new ways.
Chloe (The Backtalk): Reprising her mechanic from Before the Storm, Chloe uses her Backtalk ability to smart-talk her way through confrontations. Her "gift of the gab" allows her to bully suspects and access restricted areas of Caledon University where Max’s more reserved approach would fail.
Healing the Hella-Deep Divide
The developers have acknowledged the mixed reception to Double Exposure—specifically the controversy surrounding how Max and Chloe’s relationship was handled. In Reunion, Deck Nine promises that player agency is back.
"Whichever choice players made in the original Life is Strange—Bay or Bae—will be reflected with branching dialogue," the team confirmed during the reveal.
This means you’ll finally have the power to define their relationship on your terms, potentially providing the closure fans have wanted since 2015.
