Days after winning Best Action Adventure Game at The Game Awards 2025, developer Team Cherry has announced the first expansion for Hollow Knight: Silksong. Titled Sea of Sorrow, the nautical-themed content is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2026 and will be free for all players.
Team Cherry released a brief teaser trailer for the expansion. While specific details are scarce, the studio confirmed that Sea of Sorrow will feature:
New areas
Bosses
Tools
More content
The trailer description encourages players to "voyage across and beneath the salt-stricken seas." Based on small visual hints from the teaser, the expansion is speculated to be set in Pharloom Bay, a seaside area that was featured in early concepts but ultimately cut from the final game.
Team Cherry has not provided a specific release date within 2026. Consistent with their previous development approach, the studio does not plan to give incremental updates, stating they will release more information on Sea of Sorrow "shortly before" its launch.
In related news, Team Cherry also revealed that they are working on an updated Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the original Hollow Knight, which will also launch in 2026 and be a free upgrade for players who already own the game on the original Switch.
