The Witcher 4 Adds Kingdom Come Dev Veteran as Production Ramps Up

CD Projekt Red is continuing to strengthen its team for The Witcher 4, and its latest hire is turning heads. The studio just welcomed Karel Kolmann, a veteran from Warhorse Studios, best known for his work on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Kolmann’s arrival comes as The Witcher 4 officially moves deeper into full production.

The next chapter in CD Projekt Red’s legendary RPG series has been in development since at least March 2022, when the company first confirmed the project was in pre-production. Two and a half years later, fans finally got their first big look at The Witcher 4 through a cinematic reveal trailer at The Game Awards, confirming Ciri as the game’s main protagonist.

CDPR Strengthens Its Quest Design Team

Even with full production underway since late 2024, CD Projekt Red is still expanding its senior talent pool. The newest addition, Karel Kolmann, brings nearly a decade of experience from his time at Czech-based Warhorse Studios, where he worked on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Kolmann confirmed the move himself via LinkedIn, with fans quickly spotting the update thanks to Twitter user kaarxx_. At Warhorse, Kolmann’s career path showed steady growth — he joined in 2017 as a writer and game designer, was promoted to senior game designer in 2021, and later became lead gameplay designer in 2025. During that time, he designed Deliverance 2’s Hardcore Mode, created 11 quests from the ground up (handling dialogue and partial scripting), and developed the game’s crime system, which dictates how NPCs react to player misdeeds.

The Witcher 4’s Team Size Mirrors The Witcher 3

Kolmann isn’t just joining CDPR — he’s officially part of The Witcher 4 team, rather than the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Project Orion. His position is listed as Senior Quest Designer, a role he’ll be handling remotely.

According to LinkedIn data reviewed by Game Rant, CD Projekt Red currently has over a dozen Senior Quest Designers working on The Witcher 4. That’s roughly the same number that The Witcher 3 had during its production, which credited 16 designers in that role. By comparison, Cyberpunk 2077 had only six senior quest designers, though it included a larger pool of junior and mid-level staff.

These figures suggest The Witcher 4 could have a quest count comparable to The Witcher 3, possibly even higher if CDPR chooses to outsource additional design work. Freelancers and external studios often help with large-scale RPGs, though their involvement typically isn’t public until release.

When Can Fans Expect The Witcher 4?

While CD Projekt Red hasn’t announced an official release window, most industry watchers expect The Witcher 4 to arrive sometime between 2027 and 2028. That timeline fits the studio’s usual development cycle and the current hiring pace.

For now, CDPR seems focused on assembling a powerhouse team of designers to deliver another massive open-world adventure. And with Kolmann’s track record in narrative design and systems work, The Witcher 4 looks to be in even better hands as development continues to ramp up.
