Arthur Morgan's Actor Says RDR3 Is Still a "Long Time" Away — But It's Coming

Hey, Daily Quest readers!

If there's one thing that fans of Rockstar have gotten used to over the past few years, it's waiting. The studio used to put games out pretty regularly a few console generations ago, but that pace massively slowed down as soon as GTA 5 lit the world on fire — and since then, we're lucky to get a new release without needing to buy a whole new console for it. Now, the man who brought one of gaming's most beloved characters to life has weighed in on the future of the franchise — and his message is equal parts hopeful and sobering.

Red Dead Redemption 3 is almost certainly coming. But don't go canceling any plans for it just yet.

"They'd Be Crazy Not To" — Clark Weighs In

As pointed out by Dexerto, Clark appeared on the latest episode of Fall Damage's "What's My Line?" show, where he talked about how many questions he gets about a possible Red Dead Redemption 3 — which he always jokes is coming "tomorrow after lunchtime."

But behind the humor, Clark was surprisingly candid. In all seriousness, Clark says that he has "no idea" when another Red Dead Redemption is coming, but that Rockstar would be "crazy not to do another one." Clark thinks that we'll eventually see another game in the series, but that it's going to be a "long time" — which shouldn't really surprise anyone considering how long we've been waiting for GTA 6.

That's a bittersweet but honest assessment from someone who has more insight into Rockstar's world than most. He's not a developer, but he's been deep inside the machine. If even he doesn't know when RDR3 is happening, that tells you everything you need to know about where things stand.

Don't Count On Seeing Arthur Again

Here's the part that might sting for die-hard fans of the Van der Linde gang. When previously asked about the possibility of Arthur Morgan returning for a third game, Clark seemed to think Morgan won't appear in the rumored sequel, saying: "Don't count on Arthur's involvement either. His story has been told, I feel."

And honestly, as much as it hurts to admit — he's right. Arthur Morgan's arc in RDR2 was one of the most complete, emotionally devastating character journeys in gaming history. Arthur received acclaim from critics, with his complexity and path to redemption most frequently the subject of praise, and reviewers ranked him among the most iconic video game characters of all time. Revisiting that story risks undermining everything that made it so special.

A new protagonist means a new story, a new setting, and potentially a whole new era of the American frontier to explore. That's actually a wildly exciting prospect — if we're patient enough to wait for it.

The RDR2 Current-Gen Problem

While we're waiting for RDR3, there's another elephant in the room that Clark himself acknowledged. We've even been waiting a long time for Red Dead Redemption 2 to get a current-gen upgrade.

Red Dead Redemption 2 originally launched in 2018 — and it still hasn't received a proper PS5 or Xbox Series X|S native version. For a game that is widely considered one of the most visually stunning open-world experiences ever made, the lack of a current-gen patch feels like a massive missed opportunity. For most people, RDR2 takes 50 or 60 hours to finish, and people are still finding new things in the game they never saw before — it's not just the main story, there are loads of side missions and an incredible amount of detail and quality. A current-gen upgrade could breathe entirely new life into the experience while fans wait for the next chapter.

Why the Wait Makes Sense (Even If It's Painful)

As understandable as it is that Rockstar takes so much time crafting what many consider the peak of triple-A gaming, it is a shame for anyone who wants to see more from their iconic franchises on a regular basis.

But the math is hard to argue with. GTA 6 has consumed nearly the entire studio's resources for what feels like an eternity. Once that launches and the dust settles, Rockstar will need time to decompress, recalibrate, and then figure out what Red Dead Redemption 3 actually looks like — new hero, new world, new vision.

If Rockstar rushes it, they risk ruining one of gaming's greatest franchises. Nobody wants that.
