Jacksepticeye Promises To Fight "Tooth And Nail" For The Bloodborne Movie — But Is That Enough?

Hey, Daily Quest readers.

The Bloodborne animated movie announcement dropped yesterday, and the gaming world is still processing it. Sony is developing the R-rated film alongside Lyrical Media and YouTuber Seán "Jacksepticeye" McLoughlin, and reactions have been… mixed. While plenty of fans are excited that Bloodborne is finally getting an adaptation, a lot of people are raising eyebrows at Jacksepticeye's involvement as a producer. Now, McLoughlin has spoken directly to those concerns in a new IGN interview, and he came in swinging. Here's what he said, why some fans are still skeptical, and what we actually know about the film so far.

Jacksepticeye Is Fully Aware Of The Pressure

McLoughlin didn't shy away from the fact that his involvement would surprise people. He addressed it head-on and made his commitment crystal clear.

"I assure you. I promise you. I'm not going into this and taking it lightly," McLoughlin said. "I know what an absolute gigantic honor it is. No one knows that better than I do."

He also pledged to fight "tooth and nail" to make sure the Bloodborne movie is as good as it possibly can be. That's a strong statement, and it's clear he genuinely feels the weight of what this project means to fans.

His Bloodborne Credentials Are Legitimately Impressive

One thing that's hard to argue with is that Jacksepticeye is a genuine, hardcore Bloodborne fan. He didn't just casually play the game once.

Evidence of his Bloodborne dedication:

  • A Hunter's Mark tattoo
  • Physical Hunter and Eileen the Crow statues
  • Between 600 and 700 cumulative hours in the game

"I absolutely adore this franchise," he said. "Bloodborne is like the thing that I wake up and play video games for. It is the top of the top."

That level of passion is genuinely reassuring. Being a devoted fan at least means he cares deeply about the source material.

But Being A Fan Isn't A Film Qualification

Here's where the skepticism kicks in — and it's fair skepticism.

Jacksepticeye has no real background in the film industry, and being a passionate fan can actually work against an adaptation just as easily as it helps. Fixating on what hardcore fans want sometimes leads to decisions that don't translate well to a broader audience.

It's also worth noting that McLoughlin is listed as a producer, not the writer or director. Those creative leads haven't been announced yet, which means the most important roles are still completely unknown.

"As the producer of it, whatever is within my power to be able to do, I will do it," he said.

That's a reasonable distinction, but it also raises the question: if Jacksepticeye isn't driving the creative vision, why is he the face of this announcement rather than FromSoftware or Hidetaka Miyazaki?

What We Know About The Movie Itself

Details are still very thin on the ground. Sony has confirmed the film will be "very true" to the source material's visceral tone, but whether it directly adapts the game's story or explores something new within the universe is still unknown.

Lyrical Media, the production studio involved, is also working on an animated Death Stranding movie alongside Kojima Productions, which at least suggests they have some experience navigating beloved gaming IPs.

Final Thoughts

Jacksepticeye's passion for Bloodborne is real and undeniable. But passion alone doesn't make a great movie, and until we know who's actually writing and directing this thing, cautious optimism feels like the right approach.
