Hey, Daily Quest readers.
Resident Evil Requiem has dual protagonists and multiple endings, but it's not a particularly long game. At least, that's what the in-game timer would have you believe. But if you've been playing and thought your total playtime seemed a little low, you're not alone.
Players are reporting that Requiem's in-game timer is drastically underestimating how long they've actually played — in some cases, by a huge margin.
The Timer Is Cutting Hours Of Playtime
Reliable Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem has noticed the discrepancy thanks to player reports and livestreams.
That's almost half the actual playtime unaccounted for.
According to Dusk Golem, the timer stops during cutscenes and deaths, but there might be more to it. One player in the comments suggested the timer pauses for almost everything:
"I'm pretty sure the in-game timer stops every time you do anything that's not walking around. Open map, open inventory, read file, interact with interactable, view cutscene, etc. It's a pure gameplay timer."
This Isn't New For Resident Evil
This isn't the first time Capcom has done this. Previous games like Resident Evil 2 Remake also featured timers that only counted "pure" gameplay time. It's a useful feature for speedrunners and players aiming for S-ranks, but it can be misleading for everyone else.
It would be great if Capcom clearly explained what's counted and what's not, but for now, just know that your real playtime is probably much higher than what the game shows.
Final Thoughts
If you're wondering why your first Requiem playthrough only took "8 hours" according to the game, it's because the timer is lying to you. Don't worry — you haven't lost your mind.
