Resident Evil Requiem Has Pulled An Expedition 33 And Sold Out Of Physical Copies Ahead Of Launch

Hey, Daily Quest readers.

The Resident Evil Requiem reviews are good. Very good. So good that they've clearly convinced a lot of people to place their pre-orders ahead of tomorrow's release. The result? Physical copies are almost entirely sold out across all platforms and major retailers. If you were hoping to snag a copy on launch day, you might be out of luck.

Physical Copies Are Gone Almost Everywhere

Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and Walmart are nearly wiped out of Requiem's physical editions. The few exceptions? Amazon still appears to have some Switch 2 copies in stock, and Best Buy has the slightly pricier deluxe edition available for Nintendo's console.

Before you give up and go digital, here's something worth considering: the Switch 2 version has been heavily praised during previews, and it currently holds a higher Metacritic score than the PS5 version. Granted, that's based on fewer reviews, but it sounds like you won't be sacrificing much by playing on Nintendo's new hardware.

Of course, digital pre-orders are still available everywhere. One of the perks of going digital is never worrying about sellouts — infinite supply, instant access. That's exactly why physical sellouts like this are becoming increasingly rare as more gamers shift away from discs and cartridges. When a game does sell out physically, it's a clear sign of something special.

How Does This Compare To Expedition 33?

The only other recent game I can recall pulling off a similar feat is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. That indie darling from a new studio defied all expectations, winning more Game of the Year awards than any other game in history and selling millions of copies.

So which sellout is more impressive — Requiem or Expedition 33?

There's a case for both. Expedition 33 was a complete underdog. Nobody expected it to blow up the way it did, so there were likely fewer physical copies printed to begin with.

Requiem, on the other hand, is a Capcom blockbuster from one of gaming's most iconic franchises — one that's about to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Capcom knew this game would sell, which means they would have printed significantly more copies for pre-orders. The fact that it still sold out before launch? That might actually be the more impressive achievement.

The Reviews Back It Up

This sellout isn't just hype — it's backed by the highest review scores for an original Resident Evil game since Resident Evil 4. Only a couple of the recent remakes (including RE4's remake) have scored higher. Requiem is officially a big deal.

Final Thoughts

If you wanted a physical copy of Resident Evil Requiem, your best bet now is the Switch 2 version — and honestly, that might not be a bad thing. Otherwise, digital is always there for you.
