Vávra's New Role: Bringing Kingdom Come To The Big Screen
Studio boss Martin Frývaldský confirmed the news, stating:
"Dan has a new role. That's the creation of the Kingdom Come movie."
Frývaldský was quick to shut down any speculation about drama behind the scenes, emphasizing that this was Vávra's choice:
"I'm sure people will wonder if this is some kind of breakup with Warhorse. No, on the contrary, Dan himself wanted to move on. He made three games that were a global success, and he has been wanting to try something different for a long time."
While Vávra won't be in the office daily anymore, he's still technically part of Warhorse in a broader sense. His focus will simply shift from game development to getting Kingdom Come onto screens in the coming years.
A Silver Lining For Fans
It's bittersweet to see Vávra leave game development, especially after building such a beloved franchise. However, there's one major upside — the movie will have someone deeply familiar with the source material at the helm.
Video game adaptations are notoriously hit-or-miss, but having the original director involved should at least ensure faithfulness to what fans love about Kingdom Come. Whether that's enough to make the film successful remains to be seen.
