Nintendo Direct Rumor: First 2026 Showcase Set for February 10?

Hey, Daily Quest readers! Dust off your Joy-Cons (or Joy-Con 2s), because the Nintendo rumor mill is spinning at max speed. After a quiet start to the year, a new report suggests that the first Nintendo Direct of 2026 is just around the corner, and it might be a "huge" one.

According to French leaker BeeFun, Nintendo is targeting February 10, 2026, for its first major livestream of the year. While Nintendo hasn't confirmed a thing, history is on their side: Nintendo has held a Direct in February for six consecutive years.

The Big Claim: A New 3D Mario for Switch 2?

The most explosive part of the BeeFun leak is the claim that Nintendo will finally pull back the curtain on a new 3D Super Mario game designed specifically for the Switch 2.

It’s been nearly a decade since Super Mario Odyssey (2017) redefined 3D platformers. However, there’s a catch for the skeptics: the primary 3D Mario team at Nintendo EPD Tokyo just finished work on Donkey Kong Bananza, which launched as a Switch 2 exclusive back in July 2025. Could a separate sub-team have been cooking up Mario in secret? Or is this a "reveal now, release later" situation to build hype for Mario's 40th anniversary?

COD on Switch 2: Code Sighting Imminent?

While Mario takes the spotlight, a separate discovery in the Call of Duty HQ source files has FPS fans buzzing.

  • The Leak: Data-miners discovered strings mentioning "Nintendo" in the latest save files and launcher code.

  • The Context: Microsoft signed a 10-year deal to bring COD to Nintendo platforms over three years ago, but we haven't seen a release since Call of Duty: Ghosts on the Wii U in 2013.

  • The Rumor: Insider Jez Corden recently suggested the first Nintendo version (potentially a native Warzone client or a Black Ops 7 port) is "nearly done." A February Direct would be the perfect stage for that "coming soon" trailer.

What Else Could Be in the Showcase?

If the February 10 date holds true, the timing aligns perfectly with several major third-party releases scheduled for the end of next month. Expect updates or launch trailers for:

GameExpected DateStatus
Mario Tennis FeverFeb 12Rumored Switch 2 Launch Title
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark TiesFeb 11/12First major Yakuza on Nintendo hardware
Resident Evil RequiemFeb 27New RE installment rumored for Switch 2
Resident Evil 7 (Native)Feb 27Finally moving from Cloud to Native on Switch 2
ReanimalFeb 13The next horror hit from the Little Nightmares devs

Final Verdict: Hype or Copium?

A February Direct is almost a mathematical certainty given Nintendo's patterns, but a 3D Mario reveal this soon after Donkey Kong Bananza is a bold prediction. However, with the Super Mario Galaxy Movie hitting theaters on January 26, Nintendo is clearly in a "Mario state of mind."

What’s your take, Quest squad? Are we getting the next Mario Odyssey, or is this just wishful thinking? And are you actually going to play Call of Duty on a Nintendo handheld? Let us know in the comments!
