It is officially January 8, 2026, and Nintendo has just dropped a six-minute Overview Trailer for Mario Tennis Fever, revealing the "chaos-first" philosophy behind the Switch 2's first major sports title. Launching on February 12, 2026, the game positions "cheating"—or more accurately, Court Manipulation—as its core competitive layer.
The "Fever Racket" System: Weaponizing the Court
The game features 30 unique Fever Rackets that players can collect and equip. Unlike previous entries where "Special Shots" were just powerful hits, Fever shots actively sabotage the environment or the opponent.
| Racket Type | "Cheating" Effect |
| Ice Racket | Turns portions of the opponent's court into a slippery frozen tundra, ruining their movement. |
| Shadow Racket | Creates a "Shadow Clone" of your character for a few seconds, forcing a 2v1 rally. |
| Mini Mushroom Racket | Summons mushrooms that shrink the opponent upon contact, reducing their reach and power. |
| Pokey Racket | Spawns a Pokey obstacle on the net; hitting it scatters its segments, which can "trip" players. |
| Fire Racket | Leaves puddles of lava on the ground that deal "HP damage" to the opponent if touched. |
The Counter-Play: If you return a Fever Shot before it bounces, you "reflect" the effect back at the sender, turning their own trap against them.
The "Biggest Roster Ever" & Adventure Mode
Nintendo confirmed a launch roster of 38 characters, surpassing Mario Tennis Aces.
Notable Newcomers: Goomba, Nabbit, Piranha Plant, Baby Wario, and Baby Waluigi (making his official series debut).
Adventure Mode: The story features "mysterious monsters" on a deserted island who transform the main cast (Mario, Peach, etc.) into babies. You must play as these infants to re-learn your tennis skills and break the curse.
Switch 2 Exclusive Features
GameShare: Only one player needs to own the game for up to four players to play together via Local Wireless. Guests can join using a Switch 2 or even an original Nintendo Switch.
GameChat: Online matches between Switch 2 users support integrated voice chat and screen-sharing via the new system-level GameChat feature.
Wii-Style Motion: "Swing Mode" returns with the Joy-Con 2, utilizing improved haptics for a more realistic racket feel.
New Hardware: A special "Light Purple / Light Green" Joy-Con 2 bundle is launching alongside the game.
Are you planning to main one of the newcomers like Baby Waluigi, or are you sticking with the classics and turning the court into a lava pit with the Fire Racket?
