Donald Trump is Being Blamed for the Lack of a Resident Evil Requiem Collector's Edition

Hey, Daily Quest readers.

Imagine this: You’re hyped for Resident Evil Requiem—ready to watch Leon Kennedy slash through zombie hordes while new protagonist Grace Ashcroft survives on pure terror—only to find out Capcom has ghosted the Collector's Edition (CE) we’ve all been waiting for.

Industry insider Dusk Golem just dropped a bombshell on X (formerly Twitter), pointing the finger directly at the political landscape. According to the leaker, "Donald Trump and his unpredictable wishy-washy tariffs" are the primary reason Resident Evil Requiem is skipping the traditional, massive CE bundle. With manufacturing and import costs reportedly skyrocketing, fans are left staring at standalone statues priced at $180 a pop instead of a bundled deal.

Jan 15 Showcase Recap: Ink Ribbons & Dual Horrors

Capcom’s recent showcase gave us a 12-minute deep dive into the nightmare awaiting us on February 27, 2026. The game features a "Dual Protagonist" system that lets you switch between first-person tension and third-person action at any time.

  • Grace Ashcroft: A bookish FBI analyst whose gameplay leans into classic survival horror. Think Resident Evil Village vibes, but with an optional Classic Mode that brings back limited saves and the legendary ink ribbons.

  • Leon S. Kennedy: The veteran agent returns, and his sections are pure adrenaline. Echoing the RE4 Remake style, Leon can parry with a hatchet and mow down enemies with a massive customizable arsenal.

The "CE" Controversy: Dusk Golem Spills the Tea

For the first time since the RE2 Remake in 2018, a mainline Resident Evil title is launching without a proper Collector's Edition box. Dusk Golem claims that the 2025 tariffs on imported goods made it financially impossible for Capcom to bundle the usual "big, bulky boxes" without passing a $500+ price tag onto consumers.

To avoid the backlash of a "luxury-priced" game, Capcom has pivoted. Instead of one big bundle, they are releasing high-end items piecemeal. While this avoids a massive upfront cost, it means collectors will have to hunt down items individually—often at higher total prices.

What Can You Still Snag? (The Survival Guide)

Even without a formal CE, there are plenty of ways to gear up for the February launch. Here is how the current editions and merch stack up:

Item / EditionWhat’s InsidePrice (USD)
Standard EditionBase Game$59.99 - $69.99

Tariffs or Not, the Hype is Real

Whether you blame the tariffs or Capcom’s manufacturing pivot, Resident Evil Requiem is shaping up to be a must-play for the series' 30th anniversary. The return to Raccoon City and the addition of survival-heavy mechanics for Grace suggest that Capcom is listening to the hardcore horror fans.

Which edition are you snagging? Are you going for the Steelbook, or are you waiting for those Fall 2026 statues? Let me know in the comments—I want to see the RE mains unite!

Stay questing!
