Hey, open-world explorers. If you’ve been holding off on replaying some of the best entries in the Far Cry series because of that sluggish 30 FPS cap, your patience is about to pay off.
Following a series of cryptic emoji riddles on social media, Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Far Cry 3: Classic Edition, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Far Cry Primal are all receiving 60 FPS updates on January 21, 2026.
The "60 FPS Jailbreak" Details
While some of these games have technically touched 60 FPS before (like Primal via Xbox’s FPS Boost), these new updates are native patches designed to bring a consistent, high-frame-rate experience to current-gen hardware.
Release Date: Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
Platforms: PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X/S.
Cost: Confirmed to be Free for all existing owners of the games.
Subscription Access: If you don’t own them, all three titles are currently available in the PS Plus Extra Game Catalog and via Ubisoft+ Classics.
Which Versions Are Getting the Buff?
| Game | Version | 2026 Update Impact |
| Far Cry 3 | Classic Edition (2018) | Finally hits 60 FPS on PS5 and Series X/S. |
| Blood Dragon | Classic Edition | The retro-neon chaos finally loses the 30 FPS stutter. |
| Far Cry Primal | Standard Edition | Native 60 FPS support (removing the need for Xbox FPS Boost). |
Note: These updates are focused on performance. Don't expect a full "remake" treatment—visual settings like Field of View (FOV) and texture resolution are expected to remain largely the same as the 2018 "Classic" releases.
Why Now? Rumors of the Future
This "legacy support" push comes at an interesting time. Industry insiders suggest Ubisoft is cleaning house and building hype for a massive year. Aside from the Far Cry patches, we are seeing increasing reports of:
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag "Resynced": A long-rumored remaster that could be revealed as early as this month.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake: Rumored to finally have a firm 2026 launch window.
Far Cry 7 & Project Maverick: Rumors of a non-linear mainline sequel and a standalone extraction shooter are swirling, with a potential reveal at a Ubisoft Forward later this year.
Final Drop: Prepare Your Storage
The updates are expected to be relatively small patches rather than full game re-downloads. If you have the "Classic Edition" of Far Cry 3 sitting in your library from the Far Cry 5 Season Pass, make sure it's installed and ready for the Wednesday rollout.
What’s your take, Quest squad? Is 60 FPS enough to make you head back to the Rook Islands to face Vaas again, or are you waiting for Far Cry 7 news? Let us know in the comments!
