The wait is finally over, block-builders! Mojang has officially unleashed the Mounts of Mayhem update for both Java and Bedrock editions. If you’ve been itching to spice up your exploration or charge into battle with something sharper than a diamond sword, this is the Game Drop you’ve been waiting for.
2025 has been a massive year for Minecraft. We’ve seen the developer shift gears to a faster "Game Drop" release schedule, giving us Spring to Life, Chase the Skies, and The Copper Age in quick succession. Now, they are closing out the year with a bang by changing how we ride and fight.
The Undead Cavalry Arrives
The biggest headline here is definitely the new mounts. Mojang isn't just giving us cute pets this time; they are making the world a little scarier and a lot more rideable.
Zombie Horses: Finally! While exploring the Overworld after dark, you might encounter these spooky steeds. But there is a catch: you have to knock off the hostile rider before you can tame the undead horse for yourself.
Camel Husks: The deserts just got hotter. You can now find Camels ridden by Husks and a dangerous new mob called the Parched. The Parched is an arrow-slinging menace that is totally immune to sunlight. If you can clear them out, the Camel is yours to ride in broad daylight.
Zombie Nautilus: The update also mentions this intriguing aquatic addition. Just like the land-based mounts, you'll need to unseat its rider to claim it.
Combat Evolved: Spears & Armor
With all these new rides, it makes sense that combat needed an upgrade. Enter the Spear.
This isn't just a pointy stick; it is a game-changer for mounted combat. The Spear is a tiered weapon that deals damage based on your movement speed. That means if you are galloping on a horse or diving with an Elytra, you are going to hit hard.
New Enchantment: The Spear comes with a unique enchantment called Lunge, which boosts your speed when you perform a jab attack.
Netherite Horse Armor: To ensure your new mount survives these high-speed skirmishes, you can finally craft Netherite horse armor. Your prized steed has never been safer.
A Strong Finish to 2025
This "Game Drop" strategy has really kept the game fresh throughout the year. With Mounts of Mayhem live, players have plenty of new mechanics to master over the holidays. It will be fascinating to see how the Spear changes PVP and PVE metas moving forward.
Are you going to hunt down a Zombie Horse or craft your first Spear? Let me know in the comments below!
