Black Ops 7's New Patch is Great for Warzone But Bad for Zombies

Well, the December 10th patch has dropped for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone, and it’s a mixed bag. On one hand, Warzone players are celebrating a massive change, but if you’re a dedicated Zombies player, you’re probably going to be pretty annoyed at the team right now.

The patch brings the usual round of stability fixes and map exploits, but let's dive into the two huge changes that matter most.

The Zombies Nerf That Hurts

Let's start with the bad news: Treyarch just killed a popular strategy in the new Astra Malorum Zombies map, specifically targeting the new LGM-1 Wonder Weapon.

The LGM-1 was apparently suffering from "unintended behavior" when combined with certain GobbleGums and the Frenzied Fire augment. What this really means is that players had figured out a way to exploit a bug involving the weapon having "stock ammo" (not just magazine ammo) to make the LGM-1 incredibly powerful, especially during the toughest boss fights.

That exploit is now gone. So, if you relied on that trick to beat the Astra Malorum boss, you’re going to have to re-think your whole strategy. They also had to patch an issue where players were getting the completion rewards for the Astra Malorum boss fight even if they actually failed the encounter, which is probably a fair fix, but still stings for anyone who benefited!

Warzone: The Heartbeat Sensor is BACK (and now it's massive)

Now for the good news, specifically for Warzone players. The Heartbeat Sensor just got a ridiculous, meta-shifting buff.

The developer has cranked the detection range from a paltry 15 meters all the way up to 60 meters. That is a gigantic increase!

Here is the logic from the devs: "The Heartbeat Sensor is intended to serve as a counter to Ghost, but its previous detection range was not impactful enough to consistently influence engagements." By dramatically increasing the range, they want to reinforce its role as a reliable intel-gathering tool.

This is a massive change. The Heartbeat Sensor just went from being a niche, almost useless gadget to arguably the most essential piece of tactical equipment in the game, forcing players to seriously consider the Ghost perk in their loadouts again. Get ready for some major meta shifts and a lot more thump-thump sounds in your next Warzone match.

Other Notable Fixes

Outside of the major modes, we also got several quality-of-life fixes:

  • Multiplayer: The dev team patched locations where players could cheese their way out of the intended playspace on maps like Standoff, Fate, Scar, Paranoia, and Toshin.

  • Endgame Campaign: Exotic-rarity weapons will finally progress their weapon levels and camos, and they fixed an issue with dedicated melee weapons and the Mega Punch Exotic Skill.

  • Context: This update arrives right after Activision announced a major strategic shift for the Call of Duty series, where they promised to stop releasing back-to-back Modern Warfare or Black Ops titles to focus on delivering "unique" and "meaningful" innovation every year. They are also launching a free trial weekend to get more players into Black Ops 7.

It looks like the focus is clearly on adjusting Warzone and trying to stabilize the entire Black Ops 7 experience.

How do you feel about the Heartbeat Sensor change? Will the Zombies nerf make you drop the map, or just make you try harder?
