A Growing Medieval RPG Still in Early Access
Released into Steam Early Access in April 2024, Bellwright has spent nearly 20 months evolving with frequent patches and content drops. The game already features directional skill-based combat, large-scale battles with player-commanded armies, deep crafting systems, and the beginnings of a story where players must clear their name after being framed for the murder of a prince.
What’s Included in the Maiden Voyage Update
Launching December 9, 2025, the Maiden Voyage update adds a large wave of new content and improvements, including:

The Halmare Isles map is the highlight, expanding exploration with new quests, loot, and town-building opportunities. Players will also gain more customization options thanks to the fully revamped Character Creator.
Developer Insights
Creative Director and Project Lead Florian Hoffreither shared that Bellwright’s continued growth is driven by community feedback and steady development:
“Since entering into Early Access last year, Bellwright has received over a million wishlists largely due to the constant updates and direct communication our team has had with players. ‘Maiden Voyage’ is really taking the feedback that we've received over the last year and improving the game in all aspects. The icing on the cake is we get to introduce an entirely new setting and continent to explore.”
When to Expect the Full Release
While Donkey Crew has not committed to a final release date, Bellwright’s Steam Early Access page previously suggested a development period of around three years. If that estimate remains accurate, version 1.0 could arrive before April 2027. Still, timelines for ambitious open world games can shift, so fans should consider this more a target than a guarantee.
The game has maintained a strong and consistent update schedule, with over 40 patches and hotfixes released since launch. Players interested in trying Bellwright before the Maiden Voyage update arrives can purchase it on Steam for $19.79, currently discounted 34% from its usual $23.99 price.
