Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remake May Have an Unusual New Title

Evidence continues to mount that Ubisoft is preparing a remake or remaster of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and a new listing from the European content rating board PEGI may have revealed both its name and rating.

According to the PEGI listing, the re release is titled Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and carries an adults only rating of 18 due to violence, strong language, and in game purchases. Ratings boards typically classify games close to launch, which suggests the project may be further along than Ubisoft has officially indicated.

Why “Resynced” Stands Out

The subtitle Resynced has raised some eyebrows among fans. The name appears to reference the Animus, the in universe virtual reality system that allows characters to relive ancestral memories by synchronizing with them. In that context, the title fits the Assassin’s Creed lore, though many still find it an oddly playful name for a re release. Some fans have even joked that it sounds like a nautical pun, fitting for a pirate themed game.

What We Know About the Black Flag Revisit

A return to Black Flag has been one of the industry’s worst kept secrets for years. Leaks date back to 2023, with multiple reports and even hints from voice actors suggesting the project was in development. More recent reports claim the game could launch during the week of March 23, 2026, though Ubisoft has not confirmed this.

It remains unclear whether Black Flag Resynced is a straightforward remaster or a more substantial remake. Previous updates to the franchise, like the Ezio Collection and Assassin’s Creed III Remastered, largely preserved the original experience with visual and performance upgrades. However, the new title could suggest deeper changes.

One notable rumor claims the re release may remove modern day sections entirely, which would be a major departure from the original Black Flag and its framing narrative.

A Well Timed Release for Fans

If Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced does arrive in early 2026, it would be a welcome release for fans of the series. Interest in the franchise remains high, especially after news that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will not receive a second major DLC.

For now, Ubisoft has yet to officially acknowledge the project, but the PEGI rating strongly suggests that Captain Edward Kenway’s return to the high seas may be closer than expected.
