Red Dead Redemption Could Be Coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2

A new ESRB rating for Red Dead Redemption suggests that Rockstar’s beloved Western classic could soon arrive on modern consoles, including the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Originally released in 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Red Dead Redemption follows former outlaw John Marston as he’s forced to hunt down his old gang members to secure his family’s freedom. Despite being nearly 15 years old, the game’s storytelling, atmosphere, and open-world design remain among Rockstar’s most acclaimed achievements.

New ESRB Listing Hints at Current-Gen Port

The Entertainment Software Rating Board has posted a new listing for Red Dead Redemption that’s separate from the existing ratings for the 2023 PS4 and Switch ports, the 2024 PC version, and the original 2010 release. Notably, this new entry lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2 as its target platforms.

This strongly implies that a native current-gen port could be on the way — potentially giving the classic title a proper home on modern systems for the first time.

Undead Nightmare Expected to Return

The content description on the new rating page mirrors that of the PS4, Switch, and PC versions, including references to gunfights involving “zombies.” That line all but confirms that the Undead Nightmare expansion, one of Rockstar’s most celebrated DLCs, will once again be bundled with the base game.

A Strategic Move After GTA 6 Delay

Following the recent delay of Grand Theft Auto 6 to November 2026, Rockstar seems to be working to maintain goodwill among its fans. In addition to bringing Grand Theft Auto 5 back to PlayStation Plus Extra this month, a re-release of Red Dead Redemption on new hardware could go a long way toward keeping players engaged.

Still, many fans continue to hope for a current-gen upgrade of Red Dead Redemption 2 — something players have requested since the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launched.

If the ESRB listing is any indication, however, Red Dead Redemption may soon ride again on the newest generation of consoles — possibly even serving as an early showcase title for the Nintendo Switch 2.
