Nintendo has rolled out a fresh system update for the Switch 2, bringing the hybrid console to version 21.0.1. The original Switch also received its own update on November 24. While the patch does not introduce new features, it continues Nintendo’s ongoing efforts to strengthen system stability across both platforms.
A Busy Year for Nintendo
2025 has marked a major milestone for Nintendo with the launch of the Switch 2 on June 5. Expectations were sky-high as the system followed the massive success of the 2017 Switch. Despite launch hurdles such as pricing controversies, the Switch 2 has already sold millions of units. As its player base expands, Nintendo has maintained a steady stream of system updates focused on stability and user experience improvements.
What’s New in Version 21.0.1
The latest update, released November 24, introduces standard stability enhancements alongside two key fixes intended to improve connectivity and system transfers.
Key Fixes
-
Corrected an issue that caused Error Code 2011-0301 or 2168-0002 during local system transfers from a Switch to a Switch 2
-
Resolved a problem where some wireless controllers and Bluetooth audio devices failed to reconnect after waking the system from Sleep Mode or disabling Airplane Mode
The original Switch also received an update addressing the transfer bug and providing additional stability improvements. As usual, Nintendo did not specify what the general improvements include, but both systems should download the update automatically. Users can manually confirm their system version in the System Settings menu.
A Packed Release Schedule
The update arrives during a high-profile period for Nintendo. Kirby Air Riders, released November 20 as a Switch 2 exclusive, introduces a new racing experience inspired by Kirby Air Ride on the GameCube. Fans are also awaiting Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, launching December 4 after an extended development cycle.
While these titles might not rival the sales power of Mario Kart World, they are key additions to the Switch 2 library. Their performance may influence hardware momentum during the holiday season, and it remains to be seen if Nintendo will share another system update before the year ends.
