According to EA’s official website, Battlefield 6 has taken the crown as 2025’s best-selling shooter, surpassing heavyweights like Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, ARC Raiders, and several other major releases. Despite controversy surrounding its battle pass and cosmetics, the game’s commercial performance remains remarkably strong.
Battlefield 6 launched as the follow-up to the divisive Battlefield 2042, a game still sitting at “Mixed” reviews on Steam. By comparison, Battlefield 6 has fared much better with a 71% Mostly Positive rating, even though a recent wave of negative reviews has pushed back against some of the game’s cosmetic choices and monetization. Still, EA’s latest claim makes it clear that the game’s sales momentum hasn’t slowed down.
Battlefield 6 Tops EA’s Sales Charts
On EA’s website, the Battlefield 6 homepage now features a bold banner thanking players for making it “the best-selling shooter game of the year.” As of now, the game has reportedly surpassed 10 million copies sold across all platforms. This aligns with early reporting from The Games Business, which noted that Battlefield 6 had a much stronger launch in the UK than Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
The Games Business also reported that Black Ops 7 sold over 60% fewer physical copies than Black Ops 6. However, those figures only account for physical retail sales, not digital purchases, which make up a large portion of modern game sales.
The Game Pass Factor
When comparing sales between Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6, Game Pass plays a significant role. Black Ops 7 launched day-one on Xbox Game Pass, meaning millions of subscribers could play it without purchasing a full copy. Naturally, this significantly lowers traditional sales numbers. Battlefield 6 isn’t available on any major subscription service aside from EA Play Pro, which is far less widely adopted.
These factors help explain why Battlefield 6 appears to be dominating sales charts while Black Ops 7 may still have a massive player base.
How Battlefield 6 Compares to Other Shooters
Battlefield 6’s strong performance also puts it ahead of ARC Raiders, which launched the same day but has only sold around 4 million copies despite going viral on social media. It has also outsold Borderlands 4, though the two titles compete in very different corners of the shooter genre.
Despite criticism over microtransactions, unrealistic skins, and its battle pass structure, Battlefield 6 continues to pull players in with its grounded, boots-on-the-ground combat and more classic multiplayer feel. And for EA, the numbers speak loudly enough.
