Bungie has shared its first major sandbox tuning update for Destiny 2: Renegades, revealing a massive round of exotic weapon buffs and mechanical changes coming with the upcoming expansion. The studio’s latest developer blog marks the beginning of a three-part “Dev Insight” series, outlining how the team plans to overhaul the weapon sandbox, perk balance, and ammo systems to revitalize the game’s struggling live experience.
Bungie Hopes to Reignite Destiny 2 With Renegades
After several seasons of declining player activity, Bungie appears eager to re-energize the Destiny 2 community. Recent updates have already rolled back or removed unpopular systems, such as Unstable Cores, in an effort to simplify gameplay and address long-standing feedback. The Renegades expansion, heavily inspired by Star Wars, launches in just a few weeks and could mark a new beginning for the franchise.
As part of the preview, Bungie detailed major buffs for numerous exotic weapons — including iconic favorites like Ace of Spades, Hawkmoon, and Osteo Striga — many of which haven’t seen significant tuning in years.

A Star Wars-Infused Future for Destiny 2
The Renegades expansion brings new exotic weapons and armor pieces that seem directly inspired by Star Wars favorites — including gear resembling Han Solo’s DL-44 pistol, Chewbacca’s Bowcaster, and The Mandalorian’s Amban rifle. On the armor side, the new Titan Praxic Vestments introduce an advanced tactical air maneuver reminiscent of Anthem’s flight systems, offering a fresh way to traverse battlefields.
With sweeping weapon updates, new exotics, and a sci-fi crossover aesthetic, Destiny 2: Renegades may be the bold reset the series needs to win players back.
