220 Rockstar Employees Demand Reinstatement of Fired GTA 6 Developers

Rockstar Games is facing growing internal pressure as 220 employees from Rockstar North have signed a joint letter demanding that the 31 recently fired Grand Theft Auto 6 developers be reinstated. The studio has already been under heavy scrutiny from UK labor organizations and the public, and now its own team members are openly standing with their dismissed colleagues.

A Firing That Sparked a Firestorm

The situation began on October 31, when Rockstar terminated dozens of GTA 6 developers. At first, no reason was provided. In the days that followed, several of the fired employees came forward, accusing the company of union busting. Many of them were either in active talks to unionize or already part of a union group.

Rockstar insists that the dismissals were lawful, citing “gross misconduct” and alleging that the employees leaked confidential information inside a Discord server containing non–Rockstar staff. The former employees dispute this, arguing the server was dedicated to discussions about organizing and workplace protections — not leaks.

The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) has since questioned the legality of Rockstar’s actions, and a potential legal battle is now looming.

Employees Push Back: “Immediately Reinstated”

On November 13, the IWGB shared that 220 Rockstar North employees signed a letter addressed to the company’s management. Their demand was clear: all 31 terminated developers should be immediately reinstated.

This show of solidarity adds significant weight to the dispute. Protests have already taken place outside Rockstar North in Edinburgh and Take-Two’s offices in London and Paris. More demonstrations are planned for November 18, although it's unclear whether current Rockstar staff will join picket lines alongside their former colleagues.

A Growing Rift That Could Impact GTA 6

The controversy arrives at a delicate time for Rockstar. GTA 6 has already faced delays, and industry analysts warn that further backlash — especially if legal action escalates — could create additional setbacks for the studio’s most anticipated title.

With no courtroom evidence yet presented from either side, the situation remains in limbo. Both Rockstar and the dismissed employees stand firmly by their claims, and the broader industry is watching closely to see whether this conflict heads toward litigation or a negotiated resolution.

For now, the only certainty is that Rockstar’s internal tensions are rising, and the future of both the company and GTA 6 may hinge on how this dispute unfolds.
