Halo Infinite Fans Are Getting Their Hopes Up After A Surprise 10GB Update Drops Out Of Nowhere

Hey, Daily Quest readers.

For a while there, it really did feel like Halo Infinite wasn’t going to live up to its name. After a rocky launch, years of content shifts, and Halo Studios openly saying that last year’s update would be the game’s final major patch, most fans assumed Infinite had quietly entered maintenance mode while the studio moved on to the future of the franchise.

Then, out of nowhere, a 10.2GB update landed.

And it wasn’t small.

Firefight: Gauntlet Arrives Unexpectedly

The new update, titled Firefight: Gauntlet, adds a fully fleshed-out co-op mode to Halo Infinite. That alone makes it surprising — but what really caught fans off guard was the timing. Halo Studios had previously stated that the last update at the end of 2025 would be Infinite’s final one.

Technically, the studio hasn’t labeled this as a “major” update. But when you’re adding an entirely new mode and dropping over 10GB of content, it certainly feels major.

Naturally, fans are excited. But more than that, they’re hopeful.

How Firefight: Gauntlet Works

Firefight: Gauntlet is a four-player co-op mode built around escalating arena-based combat.

Here’s how it plays:

  • Four players team up to battle waves of enemies
  • Each arena contains powerful “champions” you must defeat
  • If you take too long, The Harbinger intervenes
  • There are five arenas total, with increasing difficulty
  • Between arenas, you can restock and upgrade

It’s classic Halo PvE chaos — but with a twist.

Built-In Replayability

Even after completing all five arenas, Firefight: Gauntlet isn’t a one-and-done experience. Each run features randomized:

  • Arena order
  • Enemy compositions
  • Champion encounters

That means no two runs should feel exactly the same. It’s a smart way to add longevity without reinventing the wheel.

New Forge Maps Add More Fuel

Alongside Firefight: Gauntlet, Halo Infinite also received two new Forge maps:

  • Munera Platform H6 – A volcanic UNSC base merged with a Flood-overrun Forerunner facility
  • Munera Platform W4 – A cleaner UNSC hangar paired with a Banished excavation site

These additions further suggest that Halo Studios hasn’t completely turned its back on Infinite — even if the franchise’s future lies elsewhere.

Is This A Revival?

Here’s where we need to pump the brakes.

Yes, this update is bigger than expected. Yes, it’s exciting to see new content land. But that doesn’t necessarily mean Halo Infinite is entering a second golden age.

The broader roadmap still points toward the future. Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to release later this year, and rumors of Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes are gaining traction.

Halo Studios appears focused on rebuilding momentum for the franchise at large — not necessarily doubling down on Infinite as a long-term live service pillar.

Final Thoughts

Firefight: Gauntlet is a pleasant surprise. It’s proof that Halo Infinite isn’t completely abandoned — and that the studio still cares about the player base.

But temper those expectations.

This feels like a bonus chapter, not a franchise reset.
