Marvel Rivals Is Expanding Beyond 6v6 — New PvE Modes And MCU Events Are Coming This Year

Hey, Daily Quest readers.

If you thought Marvel Rivals was just going to stay a straightforward hero shooter, think again. NetEase has officially confirmed that the game is getting new PvE modes in 2026, and the studio's ambitions go way beyond just tweaking the 6v6 formula. In a new interview with FRVR, executive producer Guangyun "Guangguang" Chen laid out his vision for transforming Marvel Rivals into what he calls a "comprehensive Marvel 'moving anime' experience." That's a big statement, and it sounds like NetEase is trying to position the game as more than just an Overwatch competitor. Here's what we know about the upcoming PvE content, how the MCU fits into the plan, and why this shift could be exactly what Marvel Rivals needs right now.

Marvel Rivals Is Getting More PvE Modes This Year

Guangguang didn't hold back when talking about where Marvel Rivals is headed.

"We are moving beyond standard 6v6 PvP," he told FRVR. "This includes the expansion into new PvE modes and Path to Doomsday. The event will feature five MCU-related updates inspired by the Infinity Saga, including new game modes and themed content."

Based on the wording, it sounds like these Infinity Saga events will be the main vehicle for introducing PvE gameplay.

That makes sense, especially since NetEase already tested the waters with the Marvel Zombies mode last year. It seems like the studio is using PvE as a way to tell stories from different Marvel timelines and continuities, with the MCU being the next major focus.

NetEase Wants Marvel Rivals To Be More Than A Shooter

Here's where things get even more interesting. Guangguang said the goal is to shift Marvel Rivals from being "just a shooter" to a full Marvel "moving anime" experience.

That's a weird phrase at first, but it actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

What this could mean:

  • Multiple storylines told through different gameplay modes
  • Expanding beyond just shooting mechanics
  • More non-combat experiences like Times Square
  • Events and modes that jump between Marvel timelines and continuities

The multiverse setup gives Marvel Rivals endless flexibility. Different skins can represent different versions of characters, and events can pull from comics, movies, or totally original stories without breaking continuity.

This Could Help Marvel Rivals Stand Out From Overwatch

Right now, Overwatch is making a comeback. Recent updates have boosted its player count and won back some goodwill from the community, which means NetEase can't just coast anymore.

Expanding into PvE and story-driven content could be the edge Marvel Rivals needs to stay competitive and offer something Overwatch doesn't.

But Balancing Is Still A Major Problem

All these exciting plans are great, but there's one glaring issue NetEase still needs to fix: game balancing.

Support heroes are currently so overpowered that players are banning them from competitive matches as much as possible. That's a huge red flag, and it's the kind of problem that can kill hype fast if it's not addressed.

Final Thoughts

Marvel Rivals has serious potential to evolve into something bigger than a traditional hero shooter, but NetEase needs to nail the fundamentals first. If they can balance the game and deliver on these PvE promises, 2026 could be huge.

What do you think? Are you excited for PvE modes in Marvel Rivals, or should NetEase focus on fixing PvP first? Drop your thoughts below — and follow @TheDailyQuest0 for more daily gaming quests!
