Marathon Developer Shuts Down "No Halo Devs Left At Bungie" Claim — Drops Dozens Of Names

Hey, Daily Quest readers.

There’s a tired narrative floating around gaming circles: “The studio that made your favorite game doesn’t have anyone left who actually worked on it.” It pops up whenever a beloved franchise stumbles — most recently aimed at Bungie after the launch of Marathon, which, while decently popular on Steam, is currently Bungie’s lowest-rated release.

Some fans claimed no one who worked on Halo — the game that launched Bungie into superstardom in 2001 — remains at the studio. Cue Elliot Grey, UI designer on Marathon, dropping what can only be described as a truth bomb on Twitter.

“Here’s Just The People I Know Off The Top Of My Head…”

In a now-viral thread, Grey responded to the claim by listing — casually, effortlessly — dozens of veteran developers still at Bungie who worked on Halo titles:

Why This Matters

Former Destiny VP Mark Noseworthy chimed in, calling Grey’s response a “truth nuke” and highlighting something fans often overlook:

“People don't appreciate the value of legacy and the experience that gets passed from one generation of developers at a studio to the next.”

“It's one of the reasons the feel of Bungie games have remained strong for 25 years — even while the gameplay team members have changed multiple times.”

That institutional knowledge — the DNA of Bungie’s design philosophy — doesn’t vanish when names change. It evolves. It’s embedded in every gunplay tweak, every map layout, every pacing decision.

Final Thoughts

Marathon may not be Destiny 3 or Halo 4, but it’s unmistakably a Bungie game — because Bungie is still full of the people who built those worlds. The veterans are there. The torchbearers are there. And they’re still shaping what comes next.

So next time someone says “nobody from the original team is left,” send them Elliot Grey’s tweet.
