God Of War Creator Says Amazon's Show Will Be Good, But That Teaser Image Was "So Bad In So Many Ways"

Hey, Daily Quest readers.

We've been drowning in God of War news lately. Santa Monica's next game is reportedly a spinoff focusing on Faye, Bluepoint's cancelled live-service game might have featured Atreus in Greek hell, and — biggest of all — we finally got our first look at Kratos and Atreus in Amazon's live-action God of War TV series.

Unfortunately, that first look... wasn't great. In fact, series creator David Jaffe thinks it was downright terrible — even though he's confident the show itself will be fine.

Fans Thought The Image Was AI-Generated

When the teaser image dropped, a lot of fans initially assumed it was AI-generated. The lighting felt off, the positioning was awkward, and something just seemed... wrong. Things got worse when Prime Video confirmed it was an actual official image.

The biggest point of mockery? Ryan Hurst's Kratos and his noticeable dad-bod. Not exactly the chiseled God-killer fans were expecting.

David Jaffe Couldn't Help But Laugh

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jaffe addressed the image — and he did not hold back.

"Two things can be true. This can be a terrible image, and it is. It is so bad in so many ways. Ron Moore is awesome, who is the showrunner. He's done Star Trek stuff. The guy is a juggernaut of a talented fellow. I have absolutely no doubt it is going to be a good show. Corey is on it. I think Corey has a great deal to offer, not just to this universe, but he's great with storytelling. I'm not worried about the show."

Jaffe made it clear he doesn't care if Hurst doesn't look exactly like Kratos — what matters is whether the actor can embody the essence of the character. But the image itself? Inexcusable.

"It's just a dumb f**ing image."*

He suggested maybe Amazon was trying to highlight the father-son dynamic rather than Kratos' rage and strength. But even then...

"Could you find a picture that doesn't look like he's s**ting in the woods? Because that's what the picture looks like."

Atreus Didn't Escape Criticism Either

Jaffe also had thoughts about how Atreus was portrayed:

"Is he a little kid that needs glasses? Is he a little kid that maybe is a little special? Because look how he's holding the bow and where he's aiming the bow. It's like he's not aiming. It's just weird the way the whole image looks."

He even took a shot at the fake-looking rock behind them. Nothing was spared.

But The Show Will Probably Be Fine

Despite the brutal critique, Jaffe remains optimistic about the actual series:

"I'm sure the show will be fine though, primarily because Ron Moore is a really good creator and showrunner, and Corey's involved."

But not before one final jab — whoever approved that image needs to be "on some kind of list."

Final Thoughts

Jaffe's confidence in Ron Moore and Cory Barlog is reassuring, but Amazon really needs to step up their marketing game. First impressions matter, and that teaser image did the show no favors.
