Don't Worry – That Surprise Returning Character In Resident Evil Requiem Might Not Be Dead

Hey, Daily Quest readers.

Spoilers for Resident Evil Requiem's late-game follow.

As if bringing back Leon Kennedy and concluding his 20-year story wasn't enough, Resident Evil Requiem's back half is absolutely stuffed with references, callbacks, and surprise returning characters. But one in particular has the community buzzing — and furious — because the game seemingly kills them off.

I'm talking about Hunk. Everyone's favorite Fourth Survivor.

But don't panic just yet. Players have discovered a pretty big hint that he might actually be alive.

What Happens To Hunk In Requiem?

Hunk suddenly appears near the end of Requiem for a one-on-one duel with Leon Kennedy. Unfortunately for Hunk, this is the missile-parrying, roundhouse-kicking Leon we're talking about, and the encounter doesn't end well for the Fourth Survivor.

After the fight, Requiem clearly wants you to think Hunk is dead. A lot of fans were furious about this — bringing back an iconic character just to kill him in the same breath felt like a slap in the face.

But eagle-eyed players have noticed something interesting.

His "Corpse" Disappears

Over on Twitter, AbsoluteBatGirl pointed out that Hunk's body actually disappears if you leave the room and come back after a few seconds.

Now, you could argue this is just the model despawning — but here's the thing: every other dead body in the room stays put, even if you leave and return. The fact that Hunk's specifically vanishes is clearly intentional.

There's a very slim chance that Umbrella disposed of his body, but they'd have to be impossibly fast to do it in the few seconds Leon steps away.

More likely? Hunk was playing dead. He is the "Human Unit Never Killed", after all. The clue is literally in his name.

But He's Not Out Of Danger Yet

Before we celebrate, there are some complications. Players have noticed that Hunk's hand shows signs of the same infection plaguing Leon and Ashley. It's unclear how far along his infection has progressed.

There's also the matter of the Ark going up in flames at the end of Requiem — which would be incredibly difficult for anyone to survive, even someone as resilient as Hunk.

That said, this is Hunk we're talking about. The man has survived everything the Resident Evil universe has thrown at him. An exploding building is basically Tuesday for this guy.

Final Thoughts

It seems very likely that Hunk isn't actually dead and will resurface in a future Resident Evil game. That should calm the fans who were furious about Capcom seemingly killing off an icon moments after reintroducing him.

The Human Unit Never Killed doesn't go down that easily.

Do you think Hunk survived? Where do you want to see him show up next? Drop your thoughts below! Stay questing — and follow @TheDailyQuest0 for more daily gaming quests! 🎮🧟
