Black Ops 7 Season 01 Reloaded: The Massive 174GB Mid-Season Update

As of January 8, 2026, the first major mid-season refresh for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is officially live. While the update is packed with content, the headlines are dominated by its staggering file size—reportedly reaching 174.5 GB on Battle.net and nearly 200 GB for some full console installations.

New Maps and Modes

Treyarch is leaning heavily into nostalgia and verticality for this update, adding three maps to the rotation:

  • Yakei (New): A small, high-intensity map set on the neon-lit rooftops of a Japanese city. It is designed for both 6v6 and 2v2 Gunfight modes.

  •

Meltdown (Remaster): The fan-favorite nuclear power plant map from Black Ops 2 makes its first-ever remastered appearance.

  •

Fringe (Remaster): The iconic farm-based map from Black Ops 3 returns with updated visuals for current-gen hardware.

  •

New Mode — Takeover: A hybrid of Domination and Hardpoint where teams fight over three neutral territories that move to new locations once fully captured.

The "Nuclear" Crossover: Fallout x Call of Duty

In a massive collaboration with Amazon’s Fallout TV series, Season 1 Reloaded introduces several "Wasteland" themed features:

  • The Ghouls LTM: A Fallout-themed spin on the classic Infected mode.

  • Power Armor Royale (Warzone): Players can find Fusion Cores to power up T-60 Power Armor suits, granting massive health boosts and jetpack thrusters.

  • Vault-Tec Nuketown: A complete visual overhaul of Nuketown, transforming it into a Vault-Tec testing facility.

  • Operator Skins: Legendary skins for Lucy, The Ghoul, and Maximus are now available in the shop.

Weaponry & Scorestreaks

Two "new" weapons have been added, though long-time fans will recognize them as modernized versions of franchise classics:

  •

Hawker HX (Sniper): A bolt-action rifle that is effectively the Black Ops 2 Ballista, focusing on fast handling and "quick-scoping" potential.

  •

Sturmwolf 45 (SMG): Based on the UMP45, this submachine gun offers high accuracy and moderate fire rate.

  • Scorestreak Dump: Several streaks from Black Ops 6 have been integrated, including the Death Machine, Combat Bow, and the Dreadnought gunship.

State of the Game: The "Battlefield" Factor

The massive update arrives at a precarious time for the franchise.

  • Player Counts: Recent SteamDB data shows Black Ops 7 hitting an all-time low for the series on PC (approx. 56,000 concurrent players), largely attributed to competition from Battlefield 6, which launched to universal acclaim in October 2025.

  • Sales: For the first time in over a decade, Call of Duty was not the #1 selling game of the year in the U.S., losing the top spot to Battlefield 6.

Are you making room for this 174GB download today, or has the "Call of Duty HQ" bloat finally pushed you to switch over to Battlefield or Arc Raiders?
