ARC Raiders: Meta-Shaking Update Targets Kettle "Insta-Kills" and Trigger Nade Spam

Hey, Daily Quest readers! If you’ve spent any time in the post-apocalyptic wilds of ARC Raiders lately, you know the "Kettle" isn't just a kitchen appliance—it’s been a semi-auto delete button. Well, the honeymoon phase for certain weapon exploits is officially coming to an end.

Embark Studios is gearing up for a major balance patch on January 13, 2026, and design lead Virgil Watkins isn't holding back. After a brief holiday hiatus, the team is returning to their rapid-fire weekly update cycle, and the "meta outliers" are squarely in their sights.

The Big Nerf: Reining in the Kettle and Trigger Nades

The breakout success of ARC Raiders—which has already smashed past 12 million copies sold—has been fueled by its tight gunplay. However, some players have pushed that gunplay to the breaking point. Here is what’s changing in the next 48 hours:

  •

The Kettle Fire Rate Cap: This common semi-auto rifle has been terrorizing lobbies. Watkins noted that players with fast fingers (or questionable macros) were hitting a fire rate so high it resulted in "insta-kills" that felt like bugs. The next patch will lower the max possible fire rate to ensure it performs as intended, not as a rapid-fire glitch.

  •

Trigger Nade Rework: These remote-detonated menaces are getting a two-pronged nerf.

    1. Falloff Curve Change: You’ll now need to be far more precise; maximum damage is being shifted strictly to direct hits.

    2. Increased Lead Time: You won't be able to detonate them the instant they leave your hand anymore. This change is designed to end the "grenade dodgeball" meta that has plagued recent PvP encounters.

Award-Winning Momentum

It’s easy to see why Embark is moving so fast. ARC Raiders closed out 2025 as the industry’s biggest Cinderella story. Despite launching just weeks before the ceremony, it managed to:

  • Win "Best Multiplayer Game" at The 2025 Game Awards (beating out Battlefield 6).

  • Win "Most Innovative Gameplay" at the Steam Awards.

  • Secure a BAFTA Longlist spot for six different categories, including Technical Achievement and New IP.

The game is currently maintaining a massive player base, recently hitting a peak of 3.2 million daily active users across all platforms.

The Controversy: AI and Ethics

It hasn't all been smooth sailing. Embark continues to face scrutiny over its use of AI text-to-speech for NPC voices and machine learning for robot animations. While critics argue this threatens human voice talent, Watkins and the CCO have maintained it’s a "studio strategy" to keep their small team punching above its weight. So far, the 12 million players don't seem to mind, as the game's "88% Positive" Steam rating remains rock solid.

Final Drop: A Fairer Battleground?

By tackling the Kettle "insta-kills" and the Trigger Nade spam, Embark is signaling that they want ARC Raiders to be a game of skill, not just who can exploit a fire-rate cap first. With the BAFTA Awards in April and new maps on the horizon, the pressure is on to keep the community happy.

What’s your take, Quest squad? Is the Kettle nerf long overdue, or were you enjoying the "melt machine"? And how do we feel about that potential TV show? Drop your hot takes in the comments!
