Meet the New Lara Croft: Two Huge Tomb Raider Games Announced

The Game Awards just delivered a double dose of nostalgia and excitement for Tomb Raider fans. Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games officially pulled back the curtain on not one, but two distinct projects that represent a massive new era for the series. This news comes with a significant change for the iconic heroine herself, as the franchise has officially moved on to a new voice for Lara Croft.

The biggest talking point is the recasting of Lara. After an era-defining run by Camilla Luddington in the survivor trilogy, the mantle has been passed to gaming veteran Alix Wilton Regan. You likely recognize her voice already, as she played Samantha Traynor in Mass Effect 3 and was a standout as the female Inquisitor in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Regan will provide the voice and performance for Lara across both of the upcoming titles.

Upcoming Release Schedule

Game TitleRelease WindowDevelopment Highlights
Legacy of Atlantis2026Full reimagining of the 1996 original in Unreal Engine 5.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst2027Brand-new mainline entry set in Northern India.
The first game on the horizon is Legacy of Atlantis, which is slated for a 2026 release. This is not just a simple port or remaster; it is a full ground-up reimagining of the original 1996 adventure built in Unreal Engine 5. Developed in partnership with Flying Wild Hog, it aims to modernize the gameplay and visuals while staying true to the atmosphere of Lara's very first outing.

Following that in 2027 is Tomb Raider: Catalyst. This is the big, all-new mainline entry that fans have been waiting for since 2018. Set in Northern India, the story follows Lara as she races against rival treasure hunters to uncover secrets unearthed by a mystical cataclysm. Crystal Dynamics is billing this as the most expansive Tomb Raider world yet, featuring vertically rich environments and high-tech adventure gear.

Lara Croft on the Small Screen

The Tomb Raider universe is also expanding on the small screen. While the games feature Alix Wilton Regan, the upcoming live-action Prime Video series has officially cast Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. In another huge casting win, sci-fi legend Sigourney Weaver has joined the show as a character named Wallace. Between the two massive game reveals and a star-studded TV adaptation, it is a very good time to be a Tomb Raider fan.

What do you think of the new casting? Are you ready to see Sophie Turner take on the role in live action, or are you more excited for Alix Wilton Regan's take in the games?
