Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3’s Official Title Is Close to Being Decided

Square Enix Nears a Final Name for the Trilogy’s Conclusion

The highly anticipated conclusion to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is steadily taking shape. Following 2020’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake and 2024’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the third and final installment is now close to receiving its official title, at least internally. While fans will still need to wait to learn the name themselves, Square Enix appears to be nearing a final decision.

Despite the long wait ahead, there is some good news regarding accessibility. Series director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed in September that the final chapter will launch simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. Unlike the previous two entries, there will be no timed platform exclusivity, ensuring that fans across all major platforms can experience the finale at the same time.

Two Final Title Candidates Remain

Information about the title decision comes from an interview conducted by Julien Chièze in October, later translated by Genkin_JPN. During the interview, Hamaguchi revealed that he and creative director Tetsuya Nomura have narrowed the title down to two options. He added that a final decision would be made before the end of the year.

This means Square Enix will have internally finalized the name by January 1, even if the public reveal doesn’t happen until much later. When that reveal might occur is still unclear, and fans should not expect an announcement at the 2025 Game Awards. With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth still relatively recent, Square Enix is likely taking its time before making the next big reveal.

Possible Titles Fans Are Speculating About

Speculation surrounding the title of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 has been ongoing since the remake project was first confirmed as a trilogy. Many fans believe the title will continue the “Re” naming convention used by the first two games. While nothing is confirmed, some of the most commonly discussed possibilities include:

  • Final Fantasy 7 Requiem

  • Final Fantasy 7 Resurrection

  • Final Fantasy 7 Renewal

Each of these titles has strong thematic connections to the story and ideas explored throughout the remake series. Given how much Remake and Rebirth have already diverged from the original game, the final title is expected to spark even more theory crafting and discussion among fans.

Release Window Still Years Away

Although the title decision is nearly complete, the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is still several years off. If Square Enix follows a development timeline similar to the first two games, a release around 2028 seems plausible, though later is also possible. As the final chapter, Square Enix is expected to take extra care to ensure the story concludes on a strong and memorable note.

In the meantime, fans still have plenty to explore in Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth. For those who have never played the original 1997 release, the years leading up to Part 3 also provide the perfect opportunity to experience the classic ending before the remake trilogy delivers its own version of events.
