“Chainsaw Man” Movie Just Broke a Huge U.S. Anime Record

Big news for anime fans: Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc has officially beaten “Dragon Ball Super: Broly at the U.S. box office—a record that stood for seven years.

By its second weekend, the film hit $30.8 million in North America, just barely passing Broly’s total of $30.7 million. That makes it the #6 highest-grossing anime film ever in the U.S.
And it did this during one of the worst Halloween weekends in years—when the entire domestic box office only made $49 million total.

Stronger Than Expected

Most sequels and anime films see big drops in their second weekend. But Chainsaw Man only fell 66.7%—much better than Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which dropped 74.5%.
Even with new horror releases like The Black Phone 2 and Regretting You taking the top two spots, Chainsaw Man held strong at #3—a rare win for an anime film in a crowded season.

Global Hit, Too

The success isn’t just in the U.S.:

  • Worldwide total: $139 million

  • Japan alone: $51.45 million

  • Other countries: $108.2 million (and counting)
Analysts now predict the movie could finish its U.S. run with $40–45 million, possibly climbing even higher on the all-time anime chart.

Why Fans Love It

The film brings the fan-favorite Reze Arc to life—introducing Reze, aka “Bomb Girl,” in her explosive anime debut.
Audiences gave it an “A” CinemaScore, and critics are praising its action, animation, and emotional punch on sites like Rotten Tomatoes.
This also marks another win for Sony and Crunchyroll, who just set records with Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle in September.

So whether you’re here for the chaos, the heart, or the chainsaw-wielding devil hunter—Chainsaw Man has proven that anime isn’t just for niche fans anymore.
It’s box office gold.
